About

Welcome to Bookish Farm

Bookish Farm is a small family farm tucked into the western foothills of Maine, where good food, good books, and a deep sense of purpose guide our every day. Rooted in our Christian faith, our work here is driven by a desire to care for God’s creation and offer food that is nourishing, honest, and full of integrity.

Who We Are

We’re Joel and Danielle Eaton—homesteaders, homeschoolers, readers, and farmers—raising our children on a farm that’s as much a way of life as it is a place. For us, farming is not just about producing food. It’s about living in tune with the land, honoring the cycles of the seasons, and teaching our children through the work of our hands. We homeschool, and the farm is central to our children’s education: science in the soil, math in the feed bins, and faith in the quiet moments between.

How We Farm

Inspired by regenerative farmers like Joel Salatin, we use practices that focus on building healthy soil, supporting animal well-being, and healing the land as we go. Everything we grow or raise is “beyond organic”, not certified, but guided by high standards and full transparency. We never use synthetic chemicals, and we rely on rotational grazing, compost, and natural cycles to produce food that’s clean, sustainable, and rich in life.

  • Our goats are rotationally grazed on fresh pasture and fed organic grains. Their milk becomes the base of our small-batch cheeses and yogurts.

  • Our pigs live in a stand of birch forest, where they root, roam, and thrive on organic feed and scraps from the garden.

  • Our chickens are rotationally grazed on pasture as well, where they forage freely and are supplemented with organic grains and garden scraps.

  • Our fruits and vegetables are grown in organically certified compost and tended using only minimal organic-approved pest controls, prioritizing soil health and biodiversity.

  • Our kitchen is where we bake from scratch, using organic and homegrown ingredients whenever possible—slow food made with care and intention.

Meet the Animals

We believe animals deserve care, dignity, and room to express their natural behaviors. And because we’re book lovers at heart, every animal on our farm is named after a beloved character or theme from literature.

You might meet Little Swan, one of our gentle dairy goats, or Pippi, our ever-watchful farm dog who’s as spunky as her namesake. Each animal is part of the story here—adding color, personality, and a little magic to daily life.

Our Faith and Mission

Our love for Jesus is at the heart of Bookish Farm. We believe that farming is a sacred calling—a way to steward God’s creation with care, humility, and joy. This farm is not just a livelihood; it’s a daily expression of our faith, where we strive to reflect the goodness and abundance of the One who made it all.

We hope that everything we grow and make—cheese, chicken, bread, produce, or pork—is a reflection of that mission: to live simply, love deeply, and nourish others well.

Thank You for Visiting

We’re grateful you’re here. We hope Bookish Farm offers you a glimpse of what matters most to us: good food, rooted faith, and a life lived close to the land.
